In Depth

Made exclusively for the clients of the historic boutique in Florence is a new Special Edition devoted to the city in which Panerai was founded. For the first time, not only is the case finely engraved by hand but the movement too is decorated with typical Florentine motifs. For more than a century, the Panerai Boutique in Florence has offered its precious watches to clients and enthusiasts from its remarkable location in the Piazza San Giovanni, facing the Baptistery and just a few paces from Giotto’s Campanile and the Duomo. These and other masterpieces of the Tuscan capital have been the source of inspiration for the sophisticated decoration of the Radiomir Firenze 3 Days Acciaio (PAM00672), the Special Edition with a case finely engraved by hand reserved for clients of the historic Boutique. Every one of the 99 examples of this new, exclusive Special Edition has a unique character, this uniqueness lying in the fact that the work is carried out entirely by hand by the master engravers. As well as the engraving of the case, the new Radiomir Firenze 3 Days Acciaio also presents a new and hitherto unreleased version of the hand-wound P.3000 movement, with a power reserve of three days. The engraving flows with pure, appealing lines and, like the inlays which adorn the polychrome marble facades of the Florentine churches, they enhance the elegant geometry of the brushed steel case 47 mm in diameter, covering the caseband and the winding crown. The lines composed by the masterly hands of the engravers form geometric shapes which together create a harmonious design in which details of great symbolic significance stand out, such as the Florentine lily, symbol of the Tuscan capital since the end of the 11th century. The calibre is the P.3000/F version, with the bridges finely laser engraved with Florentine motifs similar to those which decorate the case, and it can be admired through the watch’s transparent back. The combination of the craftsmanship of the case and the watchmaking technology of the movement give this watch a remarkably distinctive identity, Panerai in inspiration and content but decidedly unique from an aesthetic point of view.

Maintenance

Panerai watches are produced to very high standards of quality. It is worth remembering that the mechanical parts run 24 hours a day when used, so the watch must undergo regular maintenance to ensure long life and good operation.

WATER-RESISTANCE

Have watch checked periodically for water-resistance by an Authorized Panerai Service Centre and renovate it every two years with regular servicing, or whenever the watch has to be opened. The restoration of water-resistance necessarily involves replacing the seals in order to ensure the maximum water resistance and protection. Where the watch is used in underwater sports activities, it is recommended that it should be checked every year before the underwater activities begin.

THE MOVEMENT

Have the movement of watch checked periodically by an Authorized Panerai Service Centre in order to preserve its perfect operation. If the watch has a tendency to gain or lose time to a significant degree, the movement may need to be overhauled. The movements are designed to withstand temperature variations between -10°C and +60°C (14°F and 140°F). Outside this range of temperatures, operational variations exceeding those set out in the specifications of the movement may be noticed. In addition, there is a risk that the lubricants contained in the movement may deteriorate, resulting in damage to some of its parts.

CLEANING THE EXTERIOR

To keep the exterior in perfect condition, we recommend washing Panerai watch with soap and warm water, using a soft brush. After this operation, and also after immersion in the sea or a swimming pool, carefully rinse the watch with fresh water. All Panerai watches can be cleaned with a soft, dry cloth.

THE STRAP

Panerai straps must be washed in warm water and left to dry. It is important not to dry them on a hot surface or expose them to direct sunlight, because the rapid evaporation of the water could damage their shape and quality. After each immersion in the sea or a swimming pool, carefully rinse the strap with fresh water. It is recommended that the strap and the buckle should be replaced by an Authorized Distributor or a Panerai Service Centre, in order to avoid any problems caused by incorrect replacement. Only an Authorized Distributor or Panerai Service Centre can guarantee the use of genuine Panerai straps, properly designed to fit the dimensions of the case and manufactured according to the quality standards of the brand. All alligator leather used by Officine Panerai comes from farms in Louisiana, USA. Officine Panerai’s suppliers have committed to the highest standard of responsibility and have given their assurance that such farms in Louisiana contribute to the stable growth of wild alligators, thus protecting this endangered species. Panerai does not use leather coming from endangered species taken from the wild.

Movement

P.3000/F calibre

The P.3000/F calibre, entirely executed in the Panerai Manufacture at Neuchâtel, is accurate, solid and reliable. The hand wound calibre has two spring barrels which store a power reserve of three days. The wheelwork of the movement is protected by four brushed bridges – all finely engraved – one of which, with two supports, fixes the large balance wheel (13.2 mm in diameter) which oscillates at a frequency 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour). The P.3000 calibre also incorporates the useful device which enables the hour hand to be adjusted quickly and accurately forwards or backwards, without interfering with the movement of the minute hand.
