PAM00504 RADIOMIR COMPOSITE® 3 DAYS – 47MM

IN 2010, OFFICINE PANERAI INTRODUCED PANERAI COMPOSITE, a synthetic ceramic created by the electrochemical process of ceramization of aluminium. Highly resistant and extremely light, Panerai Composite combines optimal technical characteristics and a sporty elegance. This material is the result of research in the field of innovative materials and represents the forefront of a technical evolution that is of fundamental importance for Panerai.
The Radiomir Composite® 3 Days – 47 mm has a cushion-shaped, brown, Panerai Composite case that houses a dial of the same colour enhanced by the small seconds dial at 9 o’clock and the engraving ‘Radiomir Panerai’. The in-house P.3000 hand-wound calibre can be admired through the large burnished sapphire case-back of the Radiomir Composite® 3 Days.
This calibre has a 3-day power reserve thanks to two barrels connected in series. It has a 16½ lignes diameter, large brush-finished bridges with anglage (chamfering) and a variable inertia 13.2 mm balance wheel, which oscillates at a frequency of 3 Hz. The P.3000 calibre also has a device enabling the hour hand to be set in jumps of one hour, so that adjustment does not interfere with the movement of the minute hand or the running of the watch.

COMPOSITE

Panerai Composite is an exclusive, innovative material that combines to a high degree the company’s interest in research and innovation with the objective of achieving ever higher technical quality, which is fundamental to Panerai. Panerai Composite is made of aluminium which undergoes a surface treatment, creating a hard layer of ceramic resulting from aluminium transformation. For several years now in the world of haute horlogerie, ceramics have ranked among the most sophisticated and interesting options, both technically and aesthetically.
This material has been known and used by mankind for thousands of years and today, by means of simple processes or through highly sophisticated operations, it can also be produced artificially to achieve a high level of performance, meeting the highest standards of hardness and reliability in the field of watchmaking. Some types of ceramic, such as synthetic sapphire or rubies (both of which are varieties of aluminium oxide, Al₂O₃) have long been widely used, and aluminium oxide is also one of the basic elements of Panerai Composite. Such composites are widely employed in the aeronautical industry and for the creation of automotive and motorcycle components that require a particularly high level of performance.
Panerai Composite is obtained through the electrochemical process of ceramization of aluminium, resulting in a material with unique features. Panerai Composite is a material that is harder and lighter than the ceramic commonly used for manufacturing cases for watches (zirconia, ZrO₂), and it is also harder than metals such as aluminium, steel and titanium. It is a material that ensures comfort, with excellent aesthetic qualities as well as outstanding resistance to scratches and high temperatures. These characteristics make it ideal for the creation of watch cases, with its ability to be milled, its light weight and its hardness from ceramization.

In the event of harsh contact with or knocks against hard surfaces (such as marble or metals) the external ceramic layer of the Panerai Composite material may be damaged, especially on the edges. Since Panerai Composite is a very hard material, if it comes into severe contact with other materials, some traces may be left on the watch. These are not scratches in the composite material, but rather a deposit of the material with which the watch came into contact, and it can be removed at a Panerai Service Centre.

READ MORE ABOUT THIS MOVEMENT

Panerai watches are produced to very high standards of quality. It is worth remembering that the mechanical parts run 24 hours a day when used, so the watch must undergo regular maintenance to ensure long life and good operation.

WATER-RESISTANCE
Have your watch checked periodically for water-resistance by an Authorized Panerai Service Centre and restore it every two years with regular servicing, or whenever the watch has to be opened. Restoring the watch’s water-resistance necessarily involves replacing the seals so as to ensure the maximum water-resistance and security. Where the watch is used in underwater sports activities, it is recommended that it should be checked every year before the season of underwater activities begins.

THE MOVEMENT
Have the movement of your watch checked periodically by an Authorized Panerai Service Centre so as to maintain its perfect operation. If the watch tends to gain or lose time significantly, the movement may need to be overhauled. The movements are designed to withstand temperature variations between -10°C and +60°C (14°F and 140°F). Outside this range of temperatures, operational variations exceeding those set out in the specifications of the movement may be noticed. In addition, there is a risk that the lubricants contained in the movement may deteriorate, resulting in damage to some of its parts.

CLEANING THE EXTERIOR
To keep the exterior in perfect condition, we recommend washing your Panerai watch with soap and warm water, using a soft brush. After this operation, and also after bathing in the sea or a swimming pool, carefully rinse the watch with clean water. All Panerai watches can be cleaned with a soft, dry cloth.

THE STRAP
Panerai straps must be washed in warm water and left to dry. It is important not to dry them on a hot surface or to expose them to direct sunlight, because the rapid evaporation of the water could damage their shape and quality. After each bathe in the sea or a swimming pool, carefully rinse the strap with clean water. The leather strap is made from leather which has not been chemically treated, which gives it a very natural, soft feel. As a result of its characteristics, the colour and form of the leather tend to change with the passage of time while maintaining all of its beauty. It is recommended that the strap and the buckle should be replaced by an Authorized Distributor or a Panerai Service Centre, in order to avoid any problems caused by incorrect replacement. Only an Authorized Distributor or Panerai Service Centre can guarantee the use of genuine Panerai straps, properly designed to fit the dimensions of the case and manufactured according to the quality standards of the brand. All alligator leather used by Officine Panerai comes from farms in Louisiana, USA. Officine Panerai’s suppliers have committed to the highest standard of responsibility and have given their assurance that such farms in Louisiana contribute to the stable growth of wild alligators, thus protecting this endangered species. Panerai does not use skins coming from fragile or endangered species taken from the wild.
