GREGORIO PALTRINIERI IS THE NEW PANERAI AMBASSADOR FOR ITALY

Gregorio Paltrinieri, reigning 1500 m Olympic pool champion and king of the recent US Open in Miami, where he won his first open-water event of the season, is the new Panerai Ambassador for Italy.

About Gregorio

About Gregorio

Gregorio Paltrinieri, known by all as “Greg”, was born in 1994 in Carpi, Emilia Romagna, where he spent all his teenage years. He started to compete when he was six years old, beginning a career that has become increasingly promising year after year.

In 2015, Gregorio Paltrinieri set the European Record for the 800 m and the World Record for the 1500 m freestyle. Then, at the London 2016 European Aquatics Championships he won two gold medals and set a new record.

However, it was only at the Rio 2016 Olympics that he achieved every athlete’s dream. Paltrinieri won the 1500 m freestyle swimming finals hands down, picking up the sought-after gold medal and taking his place among the world’s most important and talented swimmers.

In the quickly approaching World Aquatics Championships, that will take place in Gwangju, South Korea in July 2019, Paltrinieri will compete again to win the gold and qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where he hopes to represent Italy in the world once more.

“A few seconds can change the outcome of a whole event. The measurement of time and the quality of my performance as a swimmer are inextricably linked,” said Gregorio Paltrinieri. “I’ve always liked watches and I’m honoured to have been chosen by Panerai, a brand that is known for its boldness, its link to the world of aquatics and its powerful technical innovation.”

The first watch Gregorio chose is the Submersible BMG-TECHTM 47 mm, made of a bulk metallic glass patented by Panerai. It features outstanding properties of strength and resistance as well as a convenient caoutchouc strap for the use in the water, even during the toughest training sessions.

“Panerai’s mission is to support the challenges of modern heroes by providing them with exceptionally accurate instruments able to flank them into the most extreme situations,” explains Jean Marc Pontroué, CEO of Panerai. “We’re proud that our new Submersible models are on Gregorio Paltrinieri’s wrist. We look forward to setting new records and reaching milestones together.”

On 11 June 2019, Gregorio Paltrinieri will join the CEO of Panerai for the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new Panerai boutique at Via del Babuino 130 in Rome, sealing his collaboration with the watchmaker Maison.
