Panerai’s bond with the Marina Militare began in 1910 with the development of precision instruments for the Italian Navy. In 1935, the first luminous watch prototype was created: a special luminous watch for sea divers. Respecting the strict requirements of commandos, these tools focused on reliability and legibility. Once reserved for military use, they became public only after Richemont’s 1997 acquisition.

Panerai remains a symbol of bravery, fiercely honoring its historic and privileged bond with the Navy and fortifying it with adrenaline-filled experiences and innovative watch collections.

In 2025, Panerai unveils its first watches inspired by Aviazione Navale, the Italian Navy aviation branch. The engraved anchor insigna pays tribute to the Marina Militare, while flight gear–inspired dials reflect military precision. The OP logo—two arrows pointing above and below—recalls Panerai’s dual expertise with Marina Militare: on land and on sea. Tools made for modern heroes, in every territory.

Experiences
Among the Military Experiences designed by Panerai was a riveting two-day program in a restricted military zone at Varignano Fortress, La Spezia. Intense activities across land, sea, and air pushed participants to their physical and mental limits under the supervision of the Italian Special Forces. Further down south in Puglia, a three-day journey with the Brigata Marina San Marco took participants through military workouts and extreme trials that exemplified the vision and values that drive Panerai’s mission in crafting timepieces for Modern Heroes.
