Unveiling Panerai’s military origins: “The Depths of Time” historical exhibition makes its mark in Miami and Shanghai

The immersive journey into Panerai’s military heritage carries on with “The Depths of Time” Exhibition, now traveling to two other fast-paced destinations: Miami Design District - from November 20th to January 5th - and Shanghai’s Tianhou Palace - from November 21st to November 30th -.

Following the successful runs in Florence and New York City, Panerai continues to unveil its unique story, kept secret until 1993, to an increasingly wide and discerning audience of watch enthusiasts worldwide.

These locations serve as perfect stages for this unfolding narrative. The Miami Design District, a vibrant nexus of luxury and innovation, offers an optimal backdrop to showcase Panerai’s technical prowess. Concurrently, the historic Tianhou Palace in Shanghai, a site deeply revered by seafarers, powerfully echoes the brand’s profound connection to the maritime world. Within these evocative settings, visitors are invited to explore the origins of Panerai's signature technical hallmarks: exceptional luminescence, advanced water resistance, extended power reserve, and robust construction – elements that define its globally recognized design.

In line with previous editions of "The Depths of Time," these new journeys present a curated collection of early diving instruments and iconic timepieces, complemented by never-before-seen archival documents and family correspondence. This comprehensive display vividly chronicles the pivotal moments that forged the Maison’s undisputed reputation for manufacturing professional tool watches.

Beyond a mere chronological journey, the exhibition adopts an instrumental approach, with each stop revealing a new facet of the brand’s distinctive technical features. From the Panerai family's Florentine roots and naval ties, visitors uncover the secrets of Radiomir and Luminor luminescence, the iconic 1956 crown-protecting bridge ensuring water resistance, and the evolution of cases and power-reserve. This narrative culminates in a celebration of Panerai's public debut on September 10th, 1993, a testament to its ability to create military-grade tools born from necessity. To mark this anniversary, Panerai launched the new Luminor Marina Militare PAM05218, a faithful reinterpretation of the Luminor ref. 5218-202/A, originally created for the Italian Navy and unveiled after the first Luminor and Mare Nostrum models were presented to the public.
