A family story

Before Panerai became a name associated with the depths, extreme missions, and instruments built for adventure, it was a family story rooted in Florence.

Two worlds, one family

Across four generations, Panerai grew through two parallel souls: the boutique, open to the city, and the laboratorio, where technical knowledge served the Italian Navy.

A one-stop landmark for watchmaking

With an expansive catalog of international and Swiss horology maisons, Orologeria Svizzera was supported by a complete ecosystem from sales and assistance to technical know-how.

Secret supplier of the Italian Navy

Shielded from public view, a secret operation ran concurrently. In the 1910s, Panerai began creating instruments for the Italian Navy, addressing specific challenges for military applications.

Instruments to depend on

Reliability is the first condition of the Panerai method, built on research, testing, and technical problem-solving. This gave life to a broad world of instruments, which earned the Italian Navy’s trust in the field.

Robustness takes shape

Solidity gave the Panerai method its form. The once patented Crown Protecting Bridge introduced a new way to guard the watch in action, contributing to a shape that is now synonymous with the Maison.

Eight days and beyond

Reducing contact with the crown helped protect the case from water ingress, and the introduction of the hand-wound Angelus SF 240 movement offered the frogmen an eight-day autonomy, that became a signature benchmark.

Keeping water out

One of the Italian Navy’s earliest requests was simple to state and difficult to achieve: a waterproof watch that kept operating under pressure. To meet this need, Panerai gave rise to an identity of solutions made to go deeper.

Lighting the missions

Luminosity is Panerai’s founding instinct. From Radiomir to Luminor paste, from tritium to Super-LumiNova®, light was the foremost purpose, making time and instruments visible when missions depended on it.

The Submersible Elux LAB-ID PAM01800 represents a future-facing technology – mechanical energy that generates illumination. Dial, hands, and bezel marker illuminate on demand for 30 minutes, without a battery.

Panerai has consistently pushed the boundaries of extreme depth, integrating cutting-edge technologies for ultimate water resistance. Key innovations include the unidirectional rotating bezel and the helium escape valve.

When pressure becomes the test 

Underwater, every meter adds pressure. At 500 meters, the exerting force on the watch crystal alone is comparable to the weight of a 500kg heavyweight motorboat. This is why high-performance matters.

Arthur Guérin-Boëri holds 8 world records in freediving. For him, the deep is a place of endurance, a testament to the constant pushing of boundaries, embodying Panerai’s spirit of challenging limits.

Time is at your command

In the open sea, time takes two distinct forms. On one hand, in the classic sailing space expands, the body slows down. On the other hand, sport sailing draws you into the intensity of competition.

Eilean, the vessel that defied time

To restore Eilean meant reversing time’s apparent course: by 2009 she was relaunched, returning to a seafaring life. Today she is back on the classic regatta circuit as a living legend still writing its course.

The original underwater blueprint

Radiomir began as Panerai’s first military underwater watch, featuring cushion case, wire lugs, and screw-down crown. But today, on the surface, it took on a different mission, evolving into the captain's watch.

Since 2019, Panerai and Luna Rossa have shared a belief that performance begins long before the starting line: through testing, discipline, and decisions made under pressure.

Panerai's material edge

Panerai draws inspiration from the technologies and materials used by Luna Rossa to meet the crew’s needs. Among these, Ti-Ceramitech™ is a titanium alloy inspired by the ceramization of steel parts of the Luna Rossa boat.

A century still in motion

After moving through Panerai’s essence, the journey now comes full circle: two new Luminor watches, inspired by a 1960s prototype and celebrating the Florentine legacy, both powered by the P.5000 calibre with an 8 Days power reserve.

Grooves that changed the grip

Luminor Firenze 8 Giorni novelties were inspired by the rare 1960s Ref. 6152/1 prototype, with parallel grooves cut into the inner sides of the crown protective bridge.  A functional modification providing divers with easy winding in missions.

A precious interpretation of Panerai legacy

The Luminor Firenze 8 Giorni PAM01734 features a 44mm Platinumtech™ case and the peculiar crown protecting bridge construction of the Ref. 6152/1 prototype. Its deep green, circular brushed sandwich dial offers an elegant aesthetic.
